PHA-979 is a professional AU and VST audio plug-in that allows you to apply an arbitrary phase shift to sound material. What is meant by phase shift here is the simultaneous change of all frequencies along the active frequency range of the signal by the value given in degrees. This is achieved by linear phase design.
The PHA-979 is useful during mixing sessions, especially when working with sound material recorded through a series of microphones. In many cases, this allows you to resolve various phase issues arising from your chosen microphone placement during the tracking session. In other cases, this process can help you align drums and other instruments with each other, bringing punch and time coherence not attainable by ordinary time alignment alone.
In addition to the phase shift, the PHA-979 features positive and negative time delay that eliminates the need to move events within the sequencer track when time-aligning any set of recorded tracks. The PHA-979 also provides mid/side channel balance and pan controls that allow you to record pairs of stereo mics onto a single stereo track without resorting to dual mono recording (on separate tracks), which is often time-consuming in later editing. .
The PHA-979 features a multi-band analog style correlation meter that greatly simplifies the phase and time alignment process. In addition, you can use the functionality that PHA-979 provides to configure headphone monitoring so that it more closely resembles the sound stage produced by stereo speaker monitoring.
