Exceptional Convolution Synthesizer
"I must tell you that the Galaxy X is certainly in a category of its own"
After three years Galaxy Instruments proudly presents an exciting new virtual instrument with an extraordinary new kind of sound design:
GALAXY X
X is a CONVOLUTION SYNTHESIZER, bringing at your disposal an extremely powerful and creative sound design tool: FX CONVOLUTION. X features over 1400 convolution X files to completely alter over 15GB of source sounds, all specifically recorded and enhanced for X. Divided into three instrument categories, Galaxy X offers a complete production package.
For instant use, you can choose from over 1000 LAYERS OF READY TO PLAY INSTRUMENT. With the specially designed user interface, very intuitive and effective, it is easy to completely change an instrument layer or create new ones from scratch. Welcome to a new world of Sound Design.
Sound categories include spheres - impacts - rhythms - loops that can be played in tone - tons of effects - transformed sounds - sequences - cinematic soundscapes - wild environments - drones - effects slots - inverted sounds - everything from soft and deep to hard and heavy and much more. Galaxy X works great for sheet music - games - ambient - cool - soundtrack - trance - electronic music - dance - pop - progressive - experimental ...
... for all those looking new sounds.
In the world of audio, convolution is the process of multiplying two signals together or folding one audio file over another. The result is a hybrid of the two original sounds, introducing a whole new world of sound creations.
With Galaxy X, these two sound files are Sources and X-Files.
SOURCES are sets of samples recorded and tuned specifically and exclusively for use with FX Convolution. Overall, the X provides around 15GB of source material with nearly 1000 key playable source instruments in tones, over 2000 sound effects and over 5,000 loops.
The X-FILES are the answers engines, created specifically for the convolution of FX, that mold, twist, filter, reverse, deepen, transform, and even destroy and rebuild the source sounds.
From the X-Engine X-Files, a celestial one turns into a tuning orchestra, a curved fan sinks into the resonances of a piano, a sitar crushes into a crash of glass, a tonal dance loop rises from a kalimba.
The combination of sources and X-files create trillions of new sounds!
The "X-EYE"
x-eyeThe X-EYE is the center of the X surface. Its color corresponds to the amount of FX convolution in action.
The best thing about X is that you are always in charge of changing easily and dynamically the amount of FX convolution by simply using Modulatio n Wheel or any other midi controller.
This way, the final sound of X can be modulated. Listen to your music and instantly decide how much the source should be involved.
THE RECORDINGS
Overall, you can choose from over 4000 basic source sounds, based on over 16000 samples.
Galaxy X SchussAlmost 1000 playable sources such as curved mallets and cymbals, piano overtones, waterphone, mini- celestial, synthetic attacks and weirdos, different pianos, plucked and beaten instruments, noises or inverted sounds.
Mikrophon Glockenspiel
Over 2000 effect sounds such as magic balls, spinning wood, curved circuit noises, scratched cymbals, electronic effects, industrial and machine samples or flute and voice phrases.
Synthesizer
Over 5000 exceptional LOOPS such as Tongue Drum, Body Percussion, World Percussions, Tonal Loops, Cut Loops, Vinyl Loops and more strangers like Rod Spring Piano or Trembling Chimes.
X FILES - Impulse Responses
The X Files mark the Sources, be it envelope, frequency, position or the tonality and the resonance. The kind of effect they get always depends on the interaction between Source and X-File. The Galaxy X, being a virtual instrument, presenting the source and convolution files, gave us the opportunity to coordinate them with one another.
The effect of X-FILES ranges from filtering to the source even shaping, deepening, transformation or complete mutation.
We record hundreds of 'real' X-files, such as resonances, phrases, 'mishandled instruments', voice noises or environmental noises, and we treat them in large numbers partly because of great effects on the sources.
Different rooms, old equipment, like tape delays or old turntables were sampled, ..... We programmed noises to filter and shape the sources or we recorded and adjusted loops different types to create loops that can be played back in tone.
We reverse all types of X files to create reverse effects for each X source.
INTERFACE
GALAXY X GUIDE brings convolution sources and X files together in a virtual instrument for the first time. This allowed us to coordinate all the sounds and aspects of the FX convolution in one integrated system with an intuitive, easy, yet effective user interface. Font sounds start at the top triangle of the interface, in the Fonts section. Fonts can be layered by up to three, already creating a lot of complex fonts. These source matched sounds make their way counterclockwise to the next module.
The Pre-X-Engine prepares the sources for the FX convolution. The source can be distorted, crushed and squished, resulting in a very different interaction with the X file. The "Dirt" section is followed by a groove and sequence generator or an EQ / filter section. The contour shapes the signal and the Repeat adds filtered echoes, which are also later convoluted.
The combination of Sources and Pre-X effects already creates a zillion complex sounds. But these are just the feed for the beast: the X-Engine.
The X-Engine is X's convolution module. This is where you choose your X-file, change its duration and pitch, synchronizes it with the host's progress and reverses it if desired. The main control is the 'X-Factor', representing the amount of convolution. The 'X-Factor' is always controlled by the Modulation Wheel (unless you choose another controller) and always viewed by the centralized X-Eye, so you can always keep an eye on the convolution value.
At the end, the Post-X-Engine finishes off the Xed sound with panning automation, Color and Filter control and the final Space module. The Behind Space hides another convolution module, but this time serving exclusively for all types of reverb, from weird little spaces to the Taj Mahal.
