Def Compressor is an audio signal compressor plug-in for professional audio production applications. The characteristic of this compressor is its ability to produce “fine” and “smooth” sound compression, with intelligibility enhancing effect. This result is achieved by the compressor timing function, which is very similar to the S curve (sigmoid curve) in the attack and release stages. The S-curve sync function also helps the compressor sound "warm" and "clean" on most settings.
While at high attack settings, the Deft Compressor can be used to emphasize audio transients, it too can be used to “crush” the audio signal if you use attack settings as low as 0.01 millisecond. Even though the S curve is the marked feature of the Deft Compressor, you can smoothly change it to a steeper L-shape by adjusting the “Punch” parameter.
The Deft Compressor also has a compression mode called “vintage”, which produces a compression sound reminiscent of analog tube compressors: it produces a warm, smoothly saturated sound with the ability to overshoot the output signal. In addition, you can switch between “feed-forward” and “feedback” compression modes.
The Deft Compressor is perfectly usable for compressing vocals, drums, guitars and other instruments, both technically and creatively. Also, it can be used to compress mix groups and complete mixes.
