Backward Time

In 1971, in a New York City basement, Eventide Clockworks revolutionized the audio industry by creating the world's first studio effects processor - the Instant Phaser and the first professional digital audio device, the Digital Delay Line.

Throughout Over the next decade, Eventide would release the world's first Harmonizer®, the H910, along with other industry firsts: Omnipressor®, Instant Flanger, H949 and SP2016.

Now, producers and engineers can evoke the classic effects heard on countless records from the past 50 years with the Clockworks Bundle. Meticulously shaping every aspect of these hardware units wasn't quick or easy, but now the indispensable sonic beauty of these classic cabinets is available for use with your DAW live or in the studio.

The Instant Phaser was the world's first studio phaser and the first rackmount effects unit, period. Originally designed to make the arduous task of tape flanger quick and easy, engineers and producers would use it for smooth, transparent modulation and pleasing stereo decorrelation. He used analog pass filters to mimic the effect achieved by the time delay, resulting in its own modulation effect. Experience all its analog charm with the Instant Phaser Mk II plugin and add “Age” to your liking.

The Omnipressor, released in 1974, set the stage as the first processor of dynamic effects, introducing the concepts of infinite compression, dynamic reversal and side chaining. The flexible nature makes the Omnipressor plug-in a must have, with options to control all aspects of dynamic modification.

The H910 Harmonizer was the world's first digital effects unit. With its unique combinations of pitch shift, feedback, modulation and delay, it was a huge hit in studios around the world. Thicker snares, guitars and vocals are the bread and butter of the H910, but robot sounds and bold octaves are easily dialed in.

The Instant Flanger used brigade ICs from state-of-the-art bucket to sweep delay, resulting in a 'true', time-based, tape flange emulation. While the Instant Phaser offered several methods of modulation control, the Instant Flanger allowed engineers to combine these controls. The result, more layers of control and less predictable scans. Explore the sweetness of vintage modulation with the Instant Flanger Mk II.

In 1977, Eventide released the H949, standing on the shoulders of the H910 as the second in the Eventide family of Harmonizers. He introduced a formal micro pitch-shifting mode, which is a great sound for solo guitar virtuosos. It also had the first reverse delays and introduced a random pitch
mode, which works great as an automatic dual track for guitars and vocals. And the H949 conquered the 'failure' using advanced autocorrelation techniques.

In 1981, the SP2016 was released and was the world's first programmable effects processor with ROM chips that “plugged” under the hood making it possible to add new effects in the field. While not a Clockworks effects unit, the SP2016 earned its place on this list as it marks the opening chapter of modern Eventide effects processors, with the H9000 as its current incarnation. The SP2016 Reverb plugin includes both modern and vintage versions of its signature Stereo Room, Room and Hi-Density Plate.
