Solidize your low end
Mongoose lets you solidify your lows by collapsing your low frequencies into mono. Out of the box, you'll get firmer, more focused bass. The clear, simple layout makes it couldn't be easier to dial in the exact sound you need.
Here's the deal: having a good wide stereo spread is great. This helps your mix sound more spacious and less cluttered. The instruments seem to fight less and everything sounds clearer. But our brains react differently to a wide spread of stereo at high frequencies than at low frequencies. Large stereo spread at high frequencies = good. Large stereo spread at low frequencies = not so good.
The problem exists because of the way our ears and brains are accustomed to hearing sounds naturally. At low frequencies, we can't really detect where a sound is coming from. It's the high frequencies that let us know where a sound is coming from.
This can lead to some major problems when mixing on monitors. You may have some low frequencies that are coming out of just one speaker and you won't be able to tell. Put the headphones on and it's immediately obvious that there's a problem. You can feel your head spin instinctively as your brain tries to figure out why the bass sounds so unnatural.
This is where Mongoose comes in. It takes all the wide low frequencies and puts them right in the middle where they belong. The result is a bass that translates better into headphones and 2.1 systems, and just provides a more consistent and natural sound overall.
This plugin really couldn't be easier to use than it is. Just set the crossover frequency and everything below it will be summed in mono. You can also adjust the stereo image width by adjusting the width knobs. This is the type of plugin that should automatically be on each bus master.
